A Gooey Mess....
Most of us know how annoying it is to step in gum, but have you ever sat in it? I can honestly say that it's never happened to me. Unfortunately, my teenage son experienced it ... 3 times!
Apparently there were students that thought it was just hilarious to hide gum in the desk seats and under the desktops. I can assure you, I didn't laugh and neither did the students that became victims.
Considering the price of jeans, I set out to find something to aid in the removal of the somewhat hardened, gooey substance. The World Wide Web is chocked full of helpful hints. Some, however, require treatment of the treated area. For example, if you use an oily substance such as mayonnaise, the gum may be gone but you're left with a grease stain. Ugh!
Should you ever be faced with the gum dilemma: Warm Vinegar! Yep, plain old distilled white vinegar. The best part is, it's safe for material, carpet and hair.
Heat a quarter to half cup of vinegar in the microwave until it's warm (I use it hot on denim), pour it on the area, let stand for 30 - 45 seconds and scrape off the gum. Repeat if necessary. Make sure the goo is gone before laundering!
