Epstein Hosts the 1st Annual North AtlantaTechnology Fair!

It all started because Mr. Anthony Shields wanted to take some of the tech-savvy Epstein students to the Technology Fair in which most public schools participate. Problem: It was held on Saturday, the designated holy day of the Jewish culture, the Sabbath. The solution: Mr. Shields decided it was important that the Jewish students in the Atlanta Area be given a venue to compete and demonstrate their high-tech capabilities, and thus organized the 1st Annual North Atlanta Technology Fair. And very impressive these students were. With categories ranging from short film video editing, web design and science/computer projects with PowerPoint, this fair had the future generation of technology innovators firmly in hand.
1
1th grade Weber High School student and Epstein alumnus, demonstrated his technology project. As he answered judge’s questions on how he and partner Daren Silberman agreed to the story board, completed the videography, designed the props, and had a marathon editing session, many were probably thinking, “This kid needs a business card!” The boys placed 1st for their age group in the short film category. Unfortunately, Daren could not be there to accept his award because he had a wrestling match that conflicted with the event, which had been schedule for Sunday but was postponed until Monday, due to the Georgia ice storm.
Epstein’s own “geek squad,” presented a group project with multiple entries. The 8th
graders created a well designed internet chat room entitled, Talk School along with an informational video about the website. One of the students also entered a separate project, the computer itself that drove the projects with ultra high- tech case embellishments. Needless to say the boys “wowed” the judges and both the on-line chat room and case embellishments took home first place honors.
Greenfield Hebrew Academy 3rd grader also took
home blue ribbons for their project that quite impressively for 3rd graders integrated computers and biology entitled, “Ocean Animals Come to Life with PowerPoint.” These young ladies certainly demonstrated that being tech-savvy is not just a “boy thing!”
Kudos are deserved by all 45 students who took part at the 1st Annual North Atlanta Technology Fair. They really showed the vast talent and technology skills that are abundant within the Jewish community! In addition, congratulations to all of the first place winners, who are now eligible to compete at the 2005 State Competition:
